World History II (C1) - C Block

Due Friday:  Write 1-2 paragraphs on what you see as Louis XIV's effects on France's power and prestige.  Your answer should address both Louis' short-term impacts (those felt mostly while he was alive) and long-term impacts (those that would be felt after his death). 

This is based on your opinion, but it should be supported by facts and ideas from what you have read about Louis XIV and how he ruled the country.

World History II (H) - D Block

Due Friday: Read "Louis XIV - Builder of France" in your packet (pp. 88 - 97) and prepare for a quiz at the beginning of class. Focus on the following questions as you read the packet:


1. How did Louis XIV change the nature of French government and leadership, according to Guizot? (consider wars, diplomacy, absolute power, administration & legislation)

2. If Louis did so much to build up the power of France, why is he also so responsible for the decline of France (during his reign and afterwards)
You only need to focus on that particular essay in the packet. We will deal with the rest of the packet either in class or as another homework assignment.
