Read the chapter on Andrew Jackson in Hofstadter and prepare for a quiz. Focus on the following as you read:
- What about Jackson's early life and pre-presidential career makes it seems as if he would be the leader of a movement for the "common man"?
- What does Jackson's fight over the National Bank reveal about Jackson as an advocate for the "common man"? In what ways does it show that he fought for the political and economic elite and in what ways did it show how he fought for the political and economic outsiders?
Also, read pages 402-409 at some point before next Friday. Because you will be reading a lot of secondary source material on the Jackson presidency, just take the time to read those pages to give yourself some contextual overview of his administration.
