Read pages 616-622; 635-654 in the textbook. Prepare for a quiz, considering the following focus questions:
- Which industries saw the most growth after the war? Why?
- What were the effects of that industrial growth?
- How did work experiences change as a result of the industrial growth of the late 19th century?
- What were the primary actions of the major labor unions (NLU, Knights of Labor, AFL, ARU) in the late 19th century?
- What was the nature of the various strikes that took place in the late 19th century? Why were they not particularly successful (be able to identify this for each of the major strikes - Haymarket, Homestead, Couer d'Alene, Pullman)
