Due Friday: Read "The Second American Revolution" and prepare for a quiz, focusing on how the Beards make their argument for the Civil War really being a social revolution, based on the changing power base from one class of Americans to a different, more economically diverse, class of people. Consider their use of the economic changes of the 1850s, the choosing of candidates for, and the results of, the election of 1860 and the efforts of abolitionists when reading the essay.
