Homework (UPDATED) - 4/27

Due Wednesday:  Read pages 992 - 1010; 1028 - 1042

Prepare for a quiz focusing on the major aspects of the domestic policies of Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson (you don't have to know every element of the Great Society programs); also, focus on how the African-American Civil Rights movement evolves over time - break up the movement into the following time frames:  1954-1959; 1960-1962; 1963-1965; 1966-1978 and be able to address the advances (or regressions) during that time frame

Note the changes of when the reading is due - it would be in your best interest to have all of the reading done by Monday so that you can spend a couple of days processing.  I will do my best to keep us focused so that we can leave as much of Wednesday open for general questions.

Due Monday:  Pages 972-987

Be able to explain how the events discussed reflect the strengths and weaknesses of the containment policy.  Also, how and why did the US strategy in Vietnam evolve by 1965?  by 1968? by 1972?

Due Tuesday:  Pages 1012-1024; 1042-1066 (because Monday is a half day, most of this will be addressed Tuesday in class)

Be able to identify how domestic policies shift under the Nixon and Carter administrations.  Also, understand why the Watergate scandal occurred and why it was so transformational in the way that the executive office is viewed.  As far as the different rights groups, be able to understand the general concerns and actions of the different interest groups listed.

Also - you need to attend a Pre-AP seminar in the Science Lecture Hall after school this week - you can attend any time.
