For Wednesday: Read the packet "War is the Health of the State" (pp. 354-363) from Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States and answer the following questions:
1. What was W.E.B. DuBois' assessment of capitalism's role in World War I?
2. List 7-10 specific examples of cases where the Sedition and Espionage Acts were enforced during the war. Explain which ones you think were the most and least justified uses of these acts.
3. How does the author show how there was a heightened suspicion of people who were "disloyal" during the war? Why does he think that there was such a concerted effort to silence "disloyalty"?
