Today's Assignment - 11/12

US History (C2) - A Block

Due Tuesday:  Complete the worksheet for 23.7 (pp. 334-335) in the textbook.  Also, answer the questions for "Life on the Plains" worksheet (both sides).  For the back side of the sheet, read the passage and try to put yourself into the situation that the woman is describing.  Then, if you can imagine yourself in those surroundings, write what it looks and sounds like and then either what it might feel, taste or smell like.

World History II(H) - B / G Blocks

Due Wednesday:  Read pp. 582-583 in the textbook first - this will give you the basic situation of the "Reign of Terror" period of the Revolution.  After you have read this section and familiarized yourself with the course of events and some of the leading figures, read the packet "Revolutionary Government / Thermidor" and prepare for quiz on the reading. 
Your major focus is to take notes on how the "sans-culottes" and Maxilmillien Robespierre both affected, and were affected by, the events of the "Reign of Terror's" revolutionary government.  Consider the influence they had on the course of events.  You will find evidence of this throughout the reading - don't get hung up on the details of many of the other individuals discussed - it is more important to me that you understand the "sans-culottes"  and Robespierre.
Also, you should focus on how the concepts of a "single will" and a "Cult of the Supreme Being" are addressed.  There is not a lot of information in the reading on these concepts, but they are important in their own right, so key in on them.

Also, here are a few terms that you might not be familiar with yet, but will help you to get a sense of the reading:
"Mountain" - radical members of the Jacobins
"Plain" - moderate members of the Jacobins
"Girondists" - moderate members of the Jacobins, more focused on intellectual ideas of government, rather than practical matters
"assignat" - French currency
"the Commune" - the Paris Commune - a radical, separate government in the city of Paris that attempted to govern outside of the control of the National Convention

You will have a quiz on Wednesday based on your understandings of the focus questions - please bring any clarifying questions you may have to class on Monday.
