Read pages 239-240 (“Granger Laws” – end of section) &
203 – 206 (“Settlers push westward” – stop at “Government supports
assimilation”) and prepare for a quiz by address the following questions:
1.
How did the states and federal government
respond to the abuse of prices and rates by railroad companies? What were the results of these actions?
2.
How and why did relationships between westward
travelers and Native Americans change after the Homestead Act?
3.
What were the reasons for, and results of, the 4
major conflicts addressed in these pages?
