Due Monday (4/26): Read the packet on the "Bolshevik Consolidation of Power" and answer the followign questions:
1) Explain why the author stated that the Bolshevik party was seen as authoritarian (starting from November 1917) and why this authoritarianism gave them greater control over the country's political and economic situations by 1920.
2) How did Russians show their discontent with Communist leadership between 1919-1921? What was the Communist leadership's response?
3) What were the international challenges faced by the Communist regime?
4) What was the differences between Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin as they vied for leadership following Lenin's death?
5) From the two primary sources from Vladimir Lenin ("Testament" & "Nature of..."), what are Lenin's hopes and fears for the future of the Soviet Union?
6) Explain Stalin's "metaphor of the cart" when he addresses changes in party leadership. How might these ideas tie into his views of "reeducation" as one of the "roles of the party"?
